How to top up an existing eSIM
Topping up your Eflexsim eSIM adds data or extra days to the eSIM you already installed. No reinstall, no second QR code, no new phone settings. Sign in at eflexsim.com or open the Eflexsim mobile app, pick the top-up package, pay, and the new allowance applies to the same eSIM you're already using. Most top-ups land within a minute or two.
Both the web and mobile app surface the same top-up flow with the same packages and prices.
What a top-up does (and what it doesn't)
A top-up adds data, days, or both to your existing eSIM. The eSIM stays installed on your phone with the same profile. You don't scan another QR. You don't reinstall anything.
What it doesn't do:
- A top-up isn't a new plan. You can't change the plan type (local to regional, say) with a top-up. If you need a different plan type, buy a new eSIM and install it as a second line.
- A top-up doesn't always extend validity. Some top-up packages add data only. Your validity end date stays the same. Other top-up packages add days. The package description on the shop says which.
- A top-up doesn't reset the timer. If your plan started on the 1st with a 7-day validity and you top up on the 5th, the plan still ends on the 7th unless you bought a top-up that extends validity.
How to top up from the web
The flow takes about a minute.
- Go to eflexsim.com and sign in with the same email you used to buy the eSIM.
- Open your active eSIM in the account dashboard. You'll see the current data balance and remaining days.
- Click Top up on that eSIM's card.
- Pick a top-up package (these are scoped to your specific plan and destination).
- Pay with the same card you used originally, or add a new card.
- The top-up applies within 1-2 minutes. Your phone shows the new allowance the next time it refreshes the connection.
If you don't see the new data after 5 minutes, toggle airplane mode on and off. That forces the phone to refresh its connection and pull the updated balance from the network.
Topping up from the mobile app
The Eflexsim mobile app supports top-up natively: open the app, sign in, pick the eSIM, pick a top-up package, pay. Same packages, same prices, same instant apply as the web flow. Choose whichever surface is more convenient at the moment.
Choosing the right top-up package
The shop shows top-up packages scoped to your specific plan. Two main kinds:
Data-only top-ups. Add more gigabytes to your existing eSIM without changing the validity end date. Use these when you're mid-trip with days left on the clock but running low on data. Common: 1 GB, 3 GB, 5 GB add-ons.
Data + days top-ups. Add gigabytes and extend the validity window. Use these when you're near the end of your plan period and want to keep using the same eSIM rather than installing a new one. Common: 5 GB + 7 days, 10 GB + 15 days.
The shop usually leads with the package most travelers pick for your scenario. If you have 4 days left and 1 GB unused, the suggested top-up will be a data + days package, not a data-only.
When to top up vs when to buy a new eSIM
A top-up is right when:
- You're mid-trip and don't want to swap eSIMs.
- The country you're in is the same country your plan covers.
- You want to keep your existing eSIM profile installed for the rest of the trip.
A new eSIM is right when:
- You're moving to a country your current plan doesn't cover (top-up only works on the same network coverage your plan already has).
- You want a different plan type. Switching from a local plan to a regional plan, for example.
- Your plan has fully expired and the top-up window has closed (some plans don't allow top-ups after validity ends).
If you're not sure which path to take, see local, regional, or global plans for the picking guide.
Frequently asked questions
QHow fast does the top-up apply?
Usually within 1-2 minutes of payment. In rare cases (carrier sync delays), it can take up to 30 minutes. If you don't see the new allowance after 30 minutes, email support@eflexsim.com with your order number.
QCan I top up after my plan expires?
Sometimes. Plans differ. Some allow top-ups for a few days after expiry, others close the eSIM permanently when validity ends. Sign in to your account and try; the shop will tell you if top-up is still available.
QDoes the top-up data stack with what I had left?
Yes. If you had 2 GB unused and top up with 5 GB, you have 7 GB available. The same applies to days. If a top-up extends validity by 7 days, those 7 days add to whatever days you had remaining.
QWhy isn't a top-up package available for my plan?
Some plan types don't have a top-up path because of how the wholesale agreement works (rare, mostly on certain global plans). If your eSIM card in your dashboard doesn't have a Top up button, that's why. You'd need to buy a new eSIM as a second line.
QCan I top up from someone else's account?
No. Top-ups are tied to the account that bought the original plan. If a friend or family member wants to send you a top-up, the simplest path is to share your account credentials (we don't recommend that for shared payment exposure) or have them buy a fresh eSIM and send you the QR.
For information on refunds (separate from top-ups), see our refund policy. If you're picking your first plan, see local, regional, or global plans.
