My eSIM disappeared from Settings
If your eSIM has disappeared from your phone's cellular settings, the cause is almost always: you accidentally deleted it, an iOS or Android update reset cellular settings, you did a factory reset or transferred to a new phone, or the phone's eSIM storage area got corrupted (rare). Recovery depends on the cause. For accidental deletes during an active plan, sign in to your Eflexsim account at eflexsim.com, find the order, and re-install the eSIM using the same QR code or activation details. The plan's data and validity continue from where you left off.
Below: how to identify which cause hit you, the recovery path for each, and what to do if you can't reinstall.
First: confirm the eSIM is actually gone
Check carefully before concluding it's deleted. Sometimes the eSIM is just visible in a different place than expected.
iPhone:
- Settings โ Cellular.
- Scroll down to see all installed lines.
- Look for the Eflexsim line. It may be labeled with a custom name you set, or as "Travel" or similar.
Android:
- Settings โ Network & internet โ SIMs.
- Look for the Eflexsim entry. It might be in a sub-page if multiple SIMs are installed.
If the line is there but turned off, tap it and toggle it on. If it's genuinely not in the list anywhere, proceed below.
Cause 1: Accidental deletion
The most common cause. Cellular settings are easy to delete lines from โ a single tap, sometimes from a misread "Remove" prompt.
Recovery for an active plan:
- Sign in to your Eflexsim account at eflexsim.com.
- Go to Account โ Orders โ find the active order.
- The order detail page has the QR code or activation details, ready to scan or copy.
- Install the eSIM again (see iPhone install or Android install).
- Once installed, the plan resumes with whatever data and days were remaining.
The plan's validity timer keeps running while you're working on this. If the plan has 5 days and 4 GB left when you deleted, after reinstall you have 5 days minus reinstall time and 4 GB left.
For deleted unactivated eSIMs:
The QR code works exactly the same. Reinstall using the same QR; activation status preserves.
Cause 2: iOS or Android update reset cellular settings
After major OS updates, some users find eSIMs gone or reset. Usually a temporary state during the update sequence; sometimes a permanent reset.
Check immediately after a major OS update:
- Did the eSIM survive the update? If yes, no action needed.
- Did the eSIM survive but stop connecting? Try data is on but apps won't connect.
- Did the eSIM disappear entirely? Reinstall from your account.
iOS 17.x and 18.x have been generally good at preserving eSIMs across updates. Older iOS versions occasionally had issues. Android updates are more variable carrier-by-carrier and phone-by-phone.
Cause 3: Factory reset or new phone
If you factory-reset your phone or switched to a new one, all eSIMs are gone. The eSIM is bound to the physical device's secure element, not transferable to the new device automatically.
Recovery:
- On the new device, sign in to your Eflexsim account.
- Find the active or unused eSIM order.
- Install it on the new device using the QR or activation code.
- The plan resumes on the new device.
Note: Eflexsim eSIMs aren't multi-device. Installing on a new phone deactivates them from the old one. Both phones can technically have the QR scanned, but only one can be active at a time.
For iPhone-to-iPhone transfer specifically, recent iOS versions support transferring some eSIMs directly during setup โ but this is carrier-dependent and not always reliable for travel eSIMs. Reinstall from your account is the more reliable path.
Cause 4: eSIM storage corruption (rare)
Very rare, but possible: the phone's eSIM secure element gets corrupted, often after a hardware issue or a botched update. The phone reports "no eSIMs" even after a fresh reinstall.
Recovery:
- Try a soft reset (hold power + volume buttons until restart prompt appears).
- Try Settings โ General โ Reset โ Reset Network Settings (this clears all cellular settings, including eSIMs and Wi-Fi passwords; you'll need to reinstall the eSIM).
- If neither works, contact your phone manufacturer's support (Apple Support, Samsung Support, etc.) for hardware diagnostics.
If the eSIM storage is broken, even a fresh QR scan from us won't work. The fix is hardware-side, not eSIM-side.
When the QR code is the same but won't reinstall
If you've deleted the eSIM and the same QR refuses to reinstall:
1. Network/Wi-Fi. Installation requires the device to reach our provisioning server. You need a working Wi-Fi connection during install. Cellular alone (with the eSIM you're trying to install) is a chicken-and-egg problem.
2. Carrier conflict. Some phones limit how many times the same eSIM can be installed/removed in a short window. Wait 24 hours and retry, or contact support.
3. The eSIM was deactivated after a prior delete. Some networks automatically deactivate eSIMs after multiple removals as fraud prevention. Email support@eflexsim.com with the order number; we can reissue if needed.
For QR scan issues during reinstall, see QR code won't scan.
Preventing future disappearance
A few habits to avoid losing an eSIM mid-trip:
Don't tap "Remove" carelessly in cellular settings. The prompt is sometimes ambiguous. Read carefully before confirming.
Back up your QR code. Save the email from us, or screenshot the QR from your order page. With the QR, reinstall takes 2 minutes.
Sign up for an account. Account holders can retrieve the QR anytime from order history without needing the original email.
Defer major OS updates until back on Wi-Fi. Updates during travel introduce more variables. If your trip is short, defer updates until you're back home.
Frequently asked questions
QDid I lose my data plan if the eSIM disappeared?
Almost never. The plan is provisioned at the partner network, not just stored in your phone. Reinstall and the plan resumes.
QHow long do I have to reinstall before I lose the plan permanently?
The plan's validity timer keeps running, so the plan ends when its days run out regardless of whether the eSIM is installed. If you delete and don't reinstall for 5 days on a 15-day plan, you're left with 10 days when you reinstall.
QCan I reinstall the same QR on a different phone?
Yes, but only on one phone at a time. Installing on a new phone deactivates the old install.
QDoes Apple Account or Google Account back up my eSIMs?
Some carrier-direct eSIMs back up to iCloud or Google. Travel eSIMs typically don't. Backup the QR code separately.
QMy phone shows "Cellular plans cannot be added" when I try to reinstall.
That's a known iOS error. See cellular plans from this carrier cannot be added.
QWhat if I can't sign in to my Eflexsim account either?
Email support@eflexsim.com with the email used at purchase, last 4 of the card, and approximate purchase date. We can resend the eSIM details. See lost access to your email if you've also lost the email.
For account recovery if your email is also inaccessible, the account-recovery article covers the full path. For order navigation, see where to find your past orders.
