How to install your eSIM on Android
Installing your Eflexsim eSIM on Android takes about two minutes once you find the right settings screen. The catch with Android is that every manufacturer puts the eSIM menu somewhere slightly different. Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola. Same outcome, different paths.
Below: the universal flow first, then per-manufacturer steps where they differ.
Before you start
Three checks.
- Your phone is eSIM-compatible. Dial
*#06#and look for an "EID". If you see one, you're good. - You're on Wi-Fi for the install. Activation needs internet, and you don't want to burn cellular data setting up an eSIM.
- Your phone is unlocked. If it came from a US carrier on a contract, check with them. Most carriers unlock within 24 hours of meeting their criteria.
The activation email lands in your inbox right after checkout. Keep it open on a separate screen (laptop, tablet, second phone) so you can scan the QR code from your Android. Most Androids can't scan their own screen.
Universal flow. Works on most Androids
If you don't see your manufacturer below, this generic flow covers most modern Androids.
- Open the activation email on a separate screen (laptop or another phone).
- On your Android, open Settings and search for eSIM or SIM cards.
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan.
- When the camera opens, point it at the QR code in your email. Hold steady until the screen confirms.
- Confirm "Add Eflexsim" or similar. Name the line if asked (e.g., "Eflexsim Italy").
- Set Eflexsim as your data SIM. Keep your home SIM for calls and SMS.
If your Android doesn't have an "Add eSIM" option in Settings, check the per-manufacturer steps below.
Samsung Galaxy
Samsung's eSIM menu is one of the cleanest.
- Open the activation email on a separate screen.
- On your Galaxy, go to Settings โ Connections โ SIM manager โ Add eSIM.
- Tap Scan QR code from service provider. Point the camera at the QR.
- Tap Add when the eSIM details appear. Name the line.
- Under SIM manager, set your Mobile data SIM to Eflexsim.
If "Add eSIM" doesn't appear in your SIM manager, your Galaxy may be a region-restricted model (some India and South Korea variants ship eSIM-disabled). Email support@eflexsim.com and we'll refund you if the eSIM can't install.
Google Pixel
Pixels go through Google's stock Settings app.
- Open the activation email on a separate screen.
- On your Pixel, go to Settings โ Network & internet โ SIMs โ + Add SIM.
- Tap Download a SIM instead? at the bottom.
- Tap Next to open the QR scanner. Point at the QR code.
- Confirm Download. Name the line ("Eflexsim Italy" works fine).
- Choose Eflexsim as your Mobile data SIM.
Tip. On Pixel 6 and later, you can also use eSIM Transfer to move profiles between phones without a new QR code. Useful when you upgrade mid-trip.
OnePlus, Motorola, Oppo, and others
These manufacturers use Android-standard menus with small variations.
- OnePlus: Settings โ Wi-Fi & Network โ SIM & Network โ Add eSIM
- Motorola: Settings โ Network & Internet โ SIMs โ Add SIM โ Download a SIM
- Oppo: Settings โ SIM Card & Mobile Data โ Add eSIM
- Sony: Settings โ Network & Internet โ SIMs โ Add eSIM
If none of those match your phone, search Settings for "eSIM". Almost every modern Android exposes it somewhere reachable from search.
Manual install (when the QR won't scan)
Sometimes the QR refuses to scan. Dim lighting, a glare-y screen, or a tiny QR rendered on a small phone. Manual entry covers you.
- Open your activation email. Subject line: "Your Eflexsim eSIM is ready." The codes you need are right at the top.
- In your Android's eSIM menu, look for Enter activation code manually or Enter details manually (label varies).
- Paste the first code from the email into the first field.
- Paste the second code into the second field, if asked.
- Leave any optional confirmation field blank. Tap Activate or Continue.
Heads up. Some Androids require the Activation code in a specific format (
LPA:1$...). The email shows the value already formatted correctly. Copy the entire string, including theLPA:1$prefix if present.
Set Eflexsim as your data SIM
Most Androids let you have one physical SIM and one eSIM active at once. To get Eflexsim's data working:
- Samsung: Settings โ Connections โ SIM manager โ Mobile data โ Eflexsim.
- Pixel: Settings โ Network & internet โ SIMs โ Mobile data preference โ Eflexsim.
- Most others: similar path under SIM card or mobile network settings.
You may also need to turn on Roaming for the Eflexsim line. Android often labels international data as "roaming" even when the carrier is the one you bought for that trip. Without roaming enabled, you'll see Eflexsim listed but no data flowing.
Heads up. Don't delete your Eflexsim line between trips. Installing again uses a fresh QR and may consume your activation credit. Turn the line off in SIM manager instead. Your QR code is single-use.
When does the plan timer start?
Your plan's validity doesn't start when you install. It starts when your Android first connects to a partner network at your destination. So you can install at home days before you fly, on Wi-Fi, without burning any time.
The first connection is automatic on arrival. Land, turn off airplane mode, and within a minute or two Eflexsim shows up as the active data network. That moment is when the clock starts.
For more on timing, see when to activate your eSIM.
Troubleshooting
Most installs work the first time. If yours doesn't:
- QR code won't scan. Common fixes for failed scans.
- My eSIM has no signal. Five checks before contacting support.
- If you're on iPhone instead, see install on iPhone.
- Email support@eflexsim.com with your order number. We reply within 4 hours.
Frequently asked questions
QWhy does my Android have multiple eSIM menus?
Some manufacturers (Samsung especially) expose eSIM controls in both the SIM manager and the Mobile Network screen. Use SIM manager for adding and removing eSIMs; use Mobile Network for switching the data line.
QCan I install before I leave home?
Yes. Install on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. Your plan won't start using time or data until your phone first connects to a partner network at your destination.
QMy Android says "eSIM not supported." What now?
First check *#06# for an EID. If the EID is missing, your phone doesn't have the chip. If the EID is there but eSIM still won't install, your phone is likely carrier-locked. Contact your home carrier for an unlock.
QDoes Android need any special APN settings?
Usually no. Eflexsim's profile sets APN automatically on install. If you have no data after the install, see no signal troubleshooting; the article covers APN and roaming as common fixes.
QCan I install on a Samsung from India?
If your Galaxy was bought in India, eSIM is often disabled by Samsung at the firmware level. Check Settings โ Connections โ SIM manager. If "Add eSIM" doesn't appear, the chip is locked. We'll refund any plan you bought under our 14-day refund policy.
